French neighboring rights society SPPF has appointed Marc Thonon as its new president for two years.
Thonon is the founder and CEO of the Atmosphériques label, home to Charlie Winston and Wax Tailor. It also launched the career of multi-platinum act Louise Attaque.
Thonon was the president of French music industry awards Victoires de la Musique in 2001 and 2002 and of French music industry aid fund FCM from 2005 to 2007.
SPPF represents 1,300 independent record labels, including Because, Wagram, Naive, Tot ou Tard, Scorpio and Harmonia Mundi.
Thonon follows Francis Dreyfus in the role of president. Dreyfus, the founder of recording and publishing company Francis Dreyfus Music, died aged 69 in June following an illness. (Billboard.biz, June 28).
