Snow and freezing temperatures are disrupting road, rail and air services in the U.K., with a knock-on effect on the U.K. touring business.
Paul Weller is the most high-profile casualty. His 3A-promoted show at Newcastle Metro Radio Arena tonight (Dec. 1) has been postponed until early next year because he was stuck in Sheffield. Cast's show tonight at O2 Academy Leeds, promoted by SJM, has also been postponed.
Laura Marling was forced to postpone her Nov. 29 show at Aberdeen Lemon Tree due to "heavy snowfall and unsafe conditions on the road," according to a statement. Marc Almond's 30th anniversary tour was unable to reach the Isle of Man yesterday (Nov. 30) for a show at the Villa Marina; it has been rescheduled for Dec. 9.
DHP Concerts' Human League show in their home city of Sheffield at the City Hall tonight has also been nixed.
British rock 'n' roll band the Godfathers issued a defiant message yesterday saying its London Cargo show would go ahead, but tonight's show has now been canceled because the adverse weather conditions affected their travel plans. And singer-songwriter Martyn Joseph's Haywards Heath Clair Hall gig tonight has been postponed.
But most shows are going ahead as planned. Arcade Fire will commence its U.K. tour with the first of two Live Nation-promoted dates at London's O2 Arena.
The Sword's show at O2 Academy Birmingham tonight has been canceled although that is blamed on medical reasons. Drive-By Truckers has also canceled the remainder of its European tour due to illness.
