Rondor Inks Alice Cooper
- Rondor Music Publishing has signed Alice Cooper to a worldwide publishing agreement and re-upped the company's publishing agreement with producer Bob Ezrin, who has worked with Cooper as a producer, co-writer, arranger and musician, as well as other artists like Kiss, Lou Reed, Nine-Inch Nails, and the Darkness.
Cooper released "Welcome 2 My Nightmare" on Sept. 13. "Bob played some of the new Alice Cooper record last December and I was literally blown away by the quality of the production and the songwriting collaboration between the two of them," said Rondor Music Publishing president Lance Freed. "At Bob's suggestion I spoke with Alice, and I told him we absolutely had to publish his music. He agreed to join us!"
Universal Studios Hollywood recently announced plans to construct an attraction based on Cooper's 1975 album "Welcome to My Nightmare" and its new sequel. The maze will feature Cooper's music as well as guillotine decapitations, electric chairs, a sadistic insane asylum, predatory snake and giant black widow spiders, according to the Rondor announcement
Imagem Signs Angel Aponte
-Imagem Music has signed a worldwide, multi-year co-publishing agreement with writer/producer Angel "Onhel" Aponte, who can be heard on Lil Wayne's recent chart-topping "Carter IV"  album.
"Angel is a talented and dedicated producer who is just starting to see the fruits of his hard work with his contribution to 'Tha Carter IV,' " Imagem Music USA Creative Manager Amanda Schupf said in a statement. "I know he will grow to be a major force in the industry and we at Imagem are excited to partner with him on this journey!"
Don Williams to Be Honored at ASCAP Country Awards
- Country music star Don Williams will be honored with the ASCAP Golden Note Award when the American Society of Composers, Authors holds its 49th Annual Country Music Awards on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Nashville's Gaylord Opryland.
The invitation-only event will also honor the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP's most performed country songs from April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011.
The Golden Note Award is presented to songwriters, composers and artists who have achieved extraordinary career milestones. Past recipients include Garth Brooks, Lindsey Buckingham, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Alan Jackson, Quincy Jones, Reba McEntire, JD Souther, Stevie Wonder, André Previn and Tom Petty among others.
Meanwhile, the ASCAP Foundation has named Katie Herzig as this year's Sammy Cahn Award winner for her song "Closest I Get," which she wrote the lyrics for and co-wrote the music with Cason Jay Cooley.
Past recipients of the Sammy Cahn Award, include John Mayer, Josh Ritter, Lori McKenna, Daniel Mackenzie, Chris Keup, Cinco Paul and John Francis.
Herzig is currently on tour with American Songwriter magazine's Ten Out of Tenn tour. Her fifth album, "The Waking Sleep," is due out this week.
