In the 12th episode of This Week In Music, Ian Rogers sits down with Future of Music Coalition's Kristin Thomson to talk about FMC's initiatives. Future of Music Coalition is a national nonprofit organization that works to ensure a diverse musical culture where artists flourish and are compensated fairly for their work and where fans can find the music they want. FOMC started in 2000.
Thomson, who played in a band herself, talks about going from being in a band to sitting with policy makers. "It was fascinating. We were 5 miles from the FCC headquarters but we never really thought about musicians having a stake," Thomson says. "We would never think about being played on commercial radio; it never seemed possible because it seemed like that was just the world of major label artists."
