Reggaetón star Daddy Yankee has signed a distribution and licensing deal with Capitol Latin for the release of his upcoming studio album, Prestige. Yankee, who releases his albums on his own El Cartel Records, was previously distributed by Sony Music Latin, and prior to that, by Universal.
Capitol Latin is calling its deal with Yankee a "worldwide strategic partnership." It will include distribution in the U.S. and licensing in the rest of the world.
Prestige, which will be released Aug. 28, includes three tracks that have already been radio hits: "Ven Conmigo," "Lovumba" -- which hit No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart -- and the new "Pasarela," which is being also being used for a Verizon Wireless campaign. Yankee also has a line of headphones with Section 8 and his own "Legends of the Game" line of luxury watches with Azad Watches. Yankee's popularity extends beyond the U.S. And Latin America and into Europe, where he was touring earlier this year.
