Get ready music fans. Tomorrow, Oct. 3, looks to be one of the busiest chart days in recent memory as major new releases by some of pop music's biggest acts look to top of the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts. And, depending on the outcome, we may see the year's biggest album debut sales and, perhaps more importantly, a rather adorable Korean man perform topless .
As reported late last week, Mumford & Sons' sophomore set "Babel" is on track to sell a whopping 600,000 copies in its first week, which would give the band the biggest debut sales week this year, surpassing Justin Bieber's "Believe" launch of 374,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan. Mumford & Sons will also tally the largest sales frame for any rock album (debut or otherwise) since AC/DC's "Black Ice" stormed in with 784,000 at No. 1 on the Nov. 8, 2008 chart.
But Mumford & Sons are hardly the only big name this week looking for chart glory. High-profile acts Green Day, No Doubt, Lupe Fiasco and Deadmau5 are all on course for top 10 arrivals tomorrow. Billboard forecasted, Green Day's "Uno!" could come in at No. 2 and No Doubt's long-awaited new studio album "Push & Shove" may bow in the No. 3 slot. That leaves Lupe Fiasco's "Food & Liquor II : the Great American Rap Album Pt. 1" possibly landing at No. 4 and Deadmau5's "<Album Title Goes Here>" battling P!nk's "The Truth About Love" for the fifth spot.
Meanwhile, on the Hot 100, the question on everyone's minds is whether PSY will lose his shirt - literally. At a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, last week, the singer and star of the global viral video phenomenon for the song "Gangnam Style" promised he would perform without his shirt if the song hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts . The song was No. 2 on last week's survey and is a strong candidate for the pole position along with current the leader, Maroon 5's "One More Night." Also expected to make high debuts on the Hot 100 this week: Taylor Swift's "Begin Again," Rihanna's "Diamonds" and "Ke$ha's "Die Young."
