Veteran U.K. act XTC will on May 22 release "Homegrown," a 20-track collection of demos and alternate versions of songs from the group's 2000 album, "Wasp Star (Apple Venus Volume 2)." The TVT set is akin to "Homespun," a collection of demo material for XTC's 1999 debut for the label, "Apple Venus Volume 1."

Like its predecessor, "Homegrown" gives devout fans of XTC's intelligent pop music a peek into the creative process of remaining principal members Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding. Among the goodies are an original demo excerpt and a "jug band version" of "In Another Life"; three takes, including an early cassette version, of "I'm the Man Who Murdered Love"; a "lounge version" of the Moulding-penned "Standing In for Joe"; and in-studio banter between the tracks.

Extensive liner notes and hand-written song notations by Partridge and Moulding are also featured. Not included are two songs -- "Didn't Hurt A Bit" and "Bumper Cars" -- which are bonus tracks on the previously released Japanese version of "Homegrown." That set is available in the U.S. only as an import.

The 1999 issue of "Apple Venus Volume 1" broke a seven-year release hiatus for XTC, which was for years embroiled in recording contract difficulties that prevented the release of any new music. The group, which has not toured since 1982 due to Partridge's now legendary stage fright, is working on material for an as-yet-untitled new album to be recorded next year.
