Simon Cowell takes loving digs at Paula Abdul ("old dog") and Nicole Scherzinger ("self-centered") as well as not-so-subtle jabs at "The Voice" and "American Idol."
Simon Cowell started a quick conversation by soliciting an opinion from this reporter about the premiere episode of The "X Factor" that will tonight (Sept. 21) on Fox. After noting that it is indeed as he has said it would be -- over the top, full-bore production values and loaded with emotional back-stories -- he seemed pleased with the assessment.
The Parents Television Council has filed an indecency complaint after contestant Geo Godley dropped his pants while performing on Wednesday night's premiere of The X Factor. A giant "X" logo covered his crotch, while judge Paula Abdul stormed off the set.

Simon Cowell may have blacklisted a few top names from performing on his newly launched "X Factor." The blatant brute recently spoke about several chart-topping females' voices, as well as his former co-worker.
The first week of "The X Factor's" U.S. debut had nudity, "nasty divas" and the best audition Simon has ever heard. The third two-hour episode takes the show to Chicago and Seattle, where there were a few gems, a whole lot of crazy and a delightfully immature Paula Abdul vs. Simon Cowell showdown.

But the show started out on a high note, and the first audition brought both talent and a love story to the table. Blonde teen duo Brock and Makenna are "just friends," but behind-the-scenes, Brock privately confessed (on national television) his love for his singing partner. Obviously there's more to come for this charming pair, and they performed amazingly, moving on with four "yes" votes after singing the Zac Brown Band's "Colder Weather."

The next contestant was not so lucky -- 35-year-old Kim Terek was sent home after being one of many contestants to bomb Katy Perry's "Firework" so far this season. "I didn't hear myself very well," defended Terek, to which Simon brutally retorted, "You were lucky."
A 21-year-old model and a 45-year-old woman in fishnets and a lace-cloaked bikini were the next to be sent packing, followed by a montage of rejects.
After several disappointing auditions, it was finally time to put the hope back in the competition. Skyelor Anderson, 16, and his mother drove more than nine hours from Mississippi to Chicago to audition -- and they made the right decision in doing so. Seconds after Anderson began singing, his backing track cut out, but he kept singing a cappella, a courageous move that helped him move on with four votes from an impressed panel.

Following Anderson was J. Mark Inman, a graduate student studying philosophy at a European university. The awkward 31 year old performed Radiohead's "Creep," a choice which Paula called "fitting." She was spot-on, because everything about his performance was weird and creepy, perfectly embodying the lyrics of the alt-rock hit. "You are in another jurisdiction for sure. I think I visited there once or twice in my life," said Paula, opening the floor for jokes questioning her sanity.

"It sounded so bad, but felt so good," Reid told Inman, before the contestant moonwalked offstage to resounding applause.
"It's like we're on Planet Paula," joked Simon, as the show launched into a montage of the bizarre, filled with all the weird songs, weird people and weird outfits that had auditioned for "X Factor."
