Wynonna Prescribes 'Love' For World's Ills

Country star Wynonna will release a new studio album, "What the World Needs Now Is Love," Aug. 12 through Curb Records. Produced by the artist and Dann Huff (Faith Hill, Jewel), the album is the result of a period of personal reflection.

"In recording the album, I really reached down into that place where you are ready to bear everything," she says in a statement. "I dug deeper and sang harder. I gave it my all and that is so rewarding to me."

The album's title track is already finding a home at U.S. country radio outlets. It is No. 19 in its eighth week on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. "With 'What the World Needs' I have found my anthem, a song that speaks to me personally and professionally," Wynonna says.

Other songs on the album include the ballad "Heaven Help Me" and "I Will Be."

The set is the follow-up to 2000's "New Day Dawning" (MCA), which debuted at No. 5 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and No. 40 on The Billboard 200. It has sold 240,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Wynonna has a few summer shows on her schedule, beginning with a July 13 stop in Odessa, Texas. A full fall tour in support of "What the World Needs Now Is Love" is planned.
