Wonder, Bennett Guest On Lauper Set

Comments

Stevie Wonder and Tony Bennett add their talents to Cyndi Lauper's forthcoming album, "At Last." As first revealed here, the album is a collection of classic songs, from the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" to Smokey Robinson's "You Really Got a Hold On Me." The set will be released Nov. 18 via Epic.

Wonder contributes harmonica to Lauper's version of "Until You Come Back to Me," a song he wrote with Clarence Paul and Morris Broadnax and has previously recorded (as have Aretha Franklin, Johnny Mathis and others). Meanwhile, Bennett and Lauper duet on the standard "Makin' Whoopee" -- written by Walter Donaldson and Gus Kahn.

"At Last" was produced by Russ Titelman (Eric Clapton, Chaka Khan). Among the other songs Lauper tackles are the Mack Gordon/Harry Warren title track, Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "Walk on By," made famous by Dionne Warwick, Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs' "Stay" and the Dorothy Fields and Jimmy McHugh-penned "Sunny Side of the Street," a track often associated with Louis Armstrong.

Lauper has a quartet of New York shows scheduled in support of "At Last." She'll perform four shows over two nights -- Oct. 28-29 -- at the intimate venue Joe's Pub. The artist's official Web site lists the concerts as sold out.

Lauper's last Epic release was the 1997 album "Sisters of Avalon," which debuted at No. 188 on The Billboard 200. Last year she issued a five-song EP, "Shine," through the Oglio label, which bowed at No. 42 on the Top Independent Albums chart.
