Wilson Summons 'Thunder' With Burnett

Jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson will release her next album, "Thunderbird," April 4 via Blue Note. The project marks her first collaboration with producer T Bone Burnett, who also contributed the songs "Lost" and "Strike a Match." Keyboardist Keefus Ciancia also served as a co-producer on the album.

"Thunderbird" is rounded out by covers of the Wallflowers' "Closer to You," Willie Dixon's "I Want To Be Loved," the traditional folk song "Red River Valley" and "Easy Rider" by Blind Lemon Jefferson. Wilson penned four songs of her own: "Go to Mexico," "It Would Be So Easy," "Poet" and "Tarot."

Among the musicians who lent a hand in the studio were guitarists Marc Ribot and Colin Linden, bassist/producer Mike Elizondo and drummers Jim Keltner and Bill Maxwell.

The album is the follow-up to 2003's "Glamoured," which reached No. 2 on Billboard's Top Jazz Albums chart and No. 16 the Heatseekers tally.
