Wilkinsons Snag Four CCMA Honors

Comments

The Wilkinsons led the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA), presented Monday night (Sept. 11) at the Skyreach Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. The act won for top group, album (the Giant set "Here And Now"), single ("Jimmy's Got A Girlfriend"), and the Fan Choice Award.

Newcomer Tara Lyn Hart had headed up the list of CCMA nominees with seven nods but won only in the Rising Star category. Other top nominees Shania Twain and Julian Austin, with six each, were shut out.

In other key categories, Paul Brandt won for top male singer, and the Dixie Chicks for top-selling album, "Fly." Michelle Wright won for top female singer, an award she previously took home from 1990-1993, while Natalie MacMaster and Alison Krauss' "Get Me Through December," received the vocal/instrumental collaboration of the year award.

As previously reported, singer Colleen Peterson and artist manager Leonard Rambeau were posthumously inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in conjunction with the awards.
