The response to Jani Lane's death in the glam-and-hair metal communities has been one of shock and disbelief, with former sunset strip denizens far and wide chiming in. Major artists ranging from Slash to Alice Cooper have lamented the loss, but we're also hearing from the where-are-they-now crowd.

"A sad end for a very talented person… RIP," wrote Kip Winger, who played celebrity softball with the former Warrant vocalist in 1991 (pictured). Mark Slaughter incorporated a lyric from his band's biggest hit, saying, "Fly to the angels, Jani. RIP my friend."

The band Trixter used Warrant's biggest hit for their tribute, saying, "Thoughts and prayers for Jani Lane's family and friends. Jani will be missed. Heaven isn't too far away..."

RATT frontman called the death "sad" and Michael Sweet of Christian metal icons Stryper said Lane "was a great guy."

Sebastian Bach of Skid Row and Broadway fame noted that, "The death rate in our business seems awful high huh" ... and Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx called the news "hard to swallow when people have kids." Tony Harnell of TNT added, "Really getting tired of hearing about my fellow artists falling away. We have to get healthy."

Poison frontman Bret Michaels, Lane's closest rival in the golden-boy vocalist category, offered his "deepest condolences" and two graduates of Guns n' Roses Slash ("What a shame") and Steven Adler ("You were a great talent") spoke up.

For their part Lane's former band Warrant also released a statement, saying, "Jani was a very important part of our lives for a long time. We will always be incredibly proud of the music we created together."

Lane, 47, was found dead in a hotel room in Woodland Hills, Calif. on Thursday evening (Aug. 11). An autopsy is planned for Friday.
