Weiland Launches New Record Label

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has formed his own record label, Softdrive Records. In a joint venture with Interscope, the imprint launches Oct. 14 with the release of "Tell Them Hi," the new album from recently reunited Los Angeles rock act the Campfire Girls.

Softdrive was founded "in an effort to find and nurture great new artists," says Weiland collaborator Douglas Grean in a post on his official Web site. Grean has been working with Weiland on his long-delayed second solo disc and recently produced "Loving the Alien (Sometimes)," a track slated for the forthcoming Velvet Revolver album.

As previously reported, that supergroup, consisting of Weiland and former members of Guns N' Roses, is in the studio working on the set, due next year via RCA.

Weiland was instrumental in reuniting the Campfire Girls in December 2000, producing recordings and allowing the band to use the Burbank recording facility he shares with partner Grean. Ironically, the Campfire Girls were originally signed to Interscope and released an EP, "Mood Enhancer," in 1995, before breaking up. "Delongpre," a collection of mid-'90s demos, was released last year through Tornado Records.

In related news, "Thank You," a compilation of Stone Temple Pilots' greatest hits, will be released Nov. 11 through Atlantic. It features the new song "All in the Suit That You Wear" and an acoustic version of the 1993 hit "Plush," alongside material from the group's five studio albums.
