Watt Takes A 'Stand' On New Album

Former Minutemen/Firehose leader Mike Watt has set a May 11 release date for "The Secondman's Middle Stand," his first Red Ink/Columbia album with the Secondmen. It will be the first release to bear Watt's name since 1997's "Contemplating the Engine Room." Tracks include "Pissbags and Tubing," "Boilin' Blazes," "Puked to High Heaven" and "Pelicanman."

As previously reported, the album was recorded in January and February of this year in Southern California with drummer Jerry Trebotic and organist Pete Mazich. The self-produced set features a guest appearance from former That Dog member Petra Haden.

Watt has documented the making of the album with an extensive online journal on his official Web site. The artist is gearing up to reprise his role as the bassist in the reformed Iggy & the Stooges on a European tour that launches June 3 in Scotland. The group recently recorded a version of Junior Kimbrough's "You Better Run" for a Fat Possum tribute album.

Beforehand, Watt and the Secondmen will embark on a month-long U.S. jaunt, kicking off April 29 in Tempe, Ariz., and wrapping May 29 in Denver.
