Waters, Hooker, Lewis Among Mississippi Hall Honorees

Bluesmen Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, rock'n'roll pianist Jerry Lee Lewis, and gospel singer James Blackwood are among the 17 new inductees into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame. Other inductees, chosen from 13 categories, included Marty Stuart, Pop Staples and the Staples Singers, Mose Allison, Charley Pride, Dorothy Moore, and Conway Twitty.

Despite a recent stroke, Blackwood, 82, of the Blackwood Brothers Quartet, attended Saturday night's ceremonies in Jackson, Miss.

"When I was plowing behind a mule in Choctaw County, I never imagined my life would be anything like this," the Grammy-winning singer said. In his 66-year singing career, he has appeared at the Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts in Washington and a Baptist church in Moscow.
