Former "X Factor" winner Shayne Ward scored a No. 1 album in the U.K. yesterday (April 23) with his self-titled debut release for Syco Music/Sony BMG, while Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" (Warner Bros.) started a fourth week atop the singles chart.
Ward's album, which follows last week's No. 2 singles chart debut with "No Promises," kept Liverpool rock outfit the Zutons from entering the album chart at No. 1 with their second set, "Tired of Hanging Around" (Deltasonic). That effort came in at No. 2, as last week's bestselling album, the Streets' "The Hardest Way To Make an Easy Living" (679/Locked On), fell to No. 5.
The album chart also contained top 10 entries for English vocalist Peter Grant at No. 8 with "New Vintage," his first release for Universal Music TV's Globe label, and veteran British rock act the Charlatans with "Simpatico" (Creole) at No. 10. Fall Out Boy's "From Under the Cork Tree" (Mercury) climbed 28-19 as the single "Dance Dance" climbed 26-8.
Behind Gnarls Barkley on the singles chart, Rihanna's "SOS" (Def Jam) inched up 5-2, while dance crossover "From Paris to Berlin" (Apollo/Europa) by Infernal climbed 34-4 as physical sales were added to its tally for the first time.
The highest new entry at No. 14 was a new club version of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" (Positiva) by Deep Dish featuring Stevie Nicks, for which she re-recorded new vocals.
Michael Jackson's Dual Disc reissue of "Leave Me Alone" (Epic) entered at No. 15, followed by the Flaming Lips' "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" (Warner Bros.), at No. 16.
Pink's "I'm Not Dead" (LaFace/Zomba) is in a second week atop Billboard's composite European Top 100 Albums chart, while the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles survey has its third new No. 1 in as many weeks, as Kelly Clarkson's "Because Of You" (RCA) moves 3-1. It's her first best-selling single on the pan-European chart to date.
