Vanessa Williams Cast As Diva-Flavored Scrooge

Vanessa Williams has been tapped to star as an "out-of-control diva" in a VH1 adaptation of Charles Dickens' holiday classic "A Christmas Carol," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Williams will star as Ebony, who VH1 execs say is based on a number of true-to-life divas. The artist will sing several songs in the production, including "one or two" originals.

"It's done tongue in cheek with a funny script but very much is taken from the original story," VH1 executive VP of programming and production Jeff Gaspin told the Reporter. "It's very true in terms of story structure to the original Dickens classic, with the exception of a clever twist with the Ghost of Christmas Future. There's a lot of attitude in the script."

Kathy Griffin will star as the Ghost Of Christmas Past, but casting is incomplete for the rest of the characters. Gaspin told the Reporter that filming begins next week in Montreal, and that the production will air on VH1 in mid-December.
