New York indie rockers Vampire Weekend have announced that they'll be criss-crossing North America and heading to Europe this winter and spring in support of sophomore album "Contra," due Jan. 12 on XL Recordings.

Following a performance on "The Late Show With David Letterman" tonight (Jan. 5) and a release-day gig at L.A.'s Henry Fonda Theater next Tuesday, the quartet will hop home to New York for a trio of dates before heading overseas in February for a month of European shows. The band returns stateside in mid-March for a full North American tour that begins in Edmonton, Alberta on March 14 and hits the west, midwest, and south before winding things up on April 19 in Oakland, Calif.

For fans who can't wait until Jan. 12 to hear "Contra," the band is streaming the full record now for free on its MySpace page. The new album is the follow up to Vampire Weekend's 2008 self-titled debut, which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart.
