U.K. Tibetan Freedom Concert Postponed

The U.K. edition of the Tibetan Freedom Concert, scheduled for Sept. 15 at London's Brockwell Park, has been postponed due to "unexpected scheduling complications and logistical issues," according to organizers. The show was set to feature the first live performance in more than two years from event founders the Beastie Boys, plus performances by Joe Strummer, Pulp, and Morcheeba.

"We will take this time to continue our political work and to transfer the energy generated in the planning of the London event to an alternative event to be announced at a later date. We especially wish to extend our gratitude to all of those who worked so hard putting the event together and hope that everyone will keep the Tibetan people in their hearts and minds as we plan for the future," organizers said in a statement.

Although a Tibetan Freedom Concert was held in May in Tokyo, the event has not been staged on a large scale since June 1999, when the Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Rage Against the Machine, Buffalo Daughter, Neil Finn, and Radiohead's Thom Yorke performed simultaneously in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Sydney, and East Troy, Wis.
