Tyrese Signs On For 'Extortion'

R&B artist Tyrese will star in the film "Extortion," which is based on a story idea by the singer/model/actor. Written by John Jarrell ("Romeo Must Die"), the Los Angeles-set crime thriller will feature Tyrese as an undercover detective investigating the apparent murder of his foster brother.

Neal H. Moritz will produce the Universal Pictures film. He is also the producer of "2 Fast 2 Furious," in which Tyrese co-stars. That film opens Friday (June 6) in U.S. theaters and also stars Paul Walker, Cole Hauser, and rapper Ludacris.

Along with his "2 Fast 2 Furious" role, Tyrese collaborated with Ludacris and R. Kelly on the song "Pick Up the Phone" for the film's Disturbing Tha Peace/Def Jam South soundtrack.

J Records released Tyrese's third album, "I Wanna Go There," in December. The set reached No. 2 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 16 on The Billboard 200. Single "How You Gonna Act Like That" peaked at No. 3 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and No. 7 on the Hot 100.
