Marilyn Manson has parted ways with bassist Twiggy Ramirez, according to a statement. Although the departure is amicable -- the two remain friends -- Ramirez will not take part in future recording sessions for Manson's upcoming Interscope album, "The Golden Age of Grotesque," which is expected to be released in late 2002. Ramirez will be replaced by bassist Tim Skold, formerly of industrial rock outfit KMFDM.

In a post to his official Web site, Manson wrote, "I have spent eight months transforming this band and our new songs into an unstoppable juggernaut, and sadly Twiggy wasn't able to make himself a part of it. Unfortunately, I feel that Marilyn Manson, as a lifestyle is not where his heart is. So I have decided to let him go his own way, otherwise it wouldn't be fair to us, the music, or especially to the fans."

"Although you can never replace a best friend like Twiggy, this album and new line-up will redefine anyone's idea of what Marilyn Manson is capable of," Manson added. "I made a choice that I hope will be the best for both of us. There is no good or bad guy in this situation -- the reasons are between Twiggy and the band. Twiggy, you will be missed and I truly hope you find something that brings you happiness. I will always be here for you. I mean that."

Elsewhere on his site, Manson expanded on the difficulties he endured in parting with Ramirez. "Believing in yourself and making a tough, almost impossible decision can hopefully define a man," he wrote. "This day is far harder for me and my dear friend than it is for anyone else."
