Twain, EMI Honored At BMI Pop Awards

Comments

Shania Twain, Eagle-Eye Cherry's single "Save Tonight," and EMI Music Publishing took home top honors at the 48th annual BMI Pop Awards, held Tuesday (May 16) at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Twain was named pop songwriter of the year for the second consecutive time; "Save Tonight" was honored as song of the year, tallying the most broadcast performances during the Oct. 1, 1998-Sept. 30, 1999, eligibility period; and EMI Music Publishing received its third straight award as pop publisher of the year. The Offspring's "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" was named the most performed song on college radio.

Multiple-award winners included matchbox twenty's Rob Thomas ("3 A.M.," "Back 2 Good," "Real World," "Smooth") and Fred and Rodney Jerkins ("The Boy Is Mine," "If You Had My Love," "It's Not Right But It's Okay").

Winners were based on broadcast performances received on U.S. radio and TV during the eligibility period.
