Trammps Singer Convicted Of Attempted Murder

Jerry Collins, a former singer in the disco group the Trammps, was convicted of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault for attacking his wife twice last year. Collins, 44, was found guilty yesterday (March 7) and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 24. He faces up to 55 years in prison.

His wife, Veronica Collins, initially cooperated with police but then recanted and became openly hostile to prosecutors. She faces a contempt charge for her behavior during the trial.

Veronica Collins testified during her husband's trial that her injuries came from a fall. Authorities said Collins slammed his wife's head against a concrete and tile bathroom wall, causing her scalp to separate from her skull.

The Trammps are best known for the single "Disco Inferno," a No. 11 hit on The Billboard Hot 100 in 1978; Collins joined the group later.
