Top Artists Set For Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Awards

Lathun, Tank, and Anthony Hamilton are among the acts set to perform at the second annual Billboard-AURN R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, to be handed out Aug. 9 at Billboardlive in Miami Beach. The show, which caps the Billboard-AURN R&B/Hip-Hop Conference, will also feature performances by Martin Luther, Lyric, and Sean Paul.

Presented by Heineken, the ceremony will be hosted by WBLS New York afternoon host Wendy Williams. Confirmed presenters include Ginuwine, Mr. Cheeks, Jarvis Church, NBA star Jalen Rose, Iconz, Skip Cheatham, and John Monds of American Urban Radio Networks (AURN).

The Billboard-AURN R&B/Hip-Hop Awards honor the genre's most popular albums, songs, artists, and contributors, as determined by the actual sales and radio airplay data, compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, respectively, that informs Billboard's weekly charts. As previously reported, Usher leads the field as a finalist in eight categories, including top R&B/hip-hop artist, top R&B/hip-hop single for "U Got It Bad," and top R&B/hip-hop album for "8701" (Arista). Ja Rule, Alicia Keys, the late Aaliyah, Mary J. Blige, and Jay-Z are all finalists in multiple categories.

During the event, Billboard will also honor the extraordinary careers of the Isley Brothers and Afrika Bambaataa with its first-ever Founder's Awards. The awards are being introduced to recognize artists for their career achievements and influence on others in the R&B and hip-hop genres, as judged by the editors of Billboard.

In addition to hosting the awards, Williams -- along with Monds (USA Music Magazine), Cheatham (SuperJam Survey), and Tanya Hart (Hollywood Live With Tanya Hart) -- will provide national coverage of the Billboard-AURN R&B/Hip-Hop Conference & Awards through AURN's more than 400 affiliate stations throughout the U.S. Coverage will include artist interviews, event recaps, live broadcasts of the network's top syndicated shows, and portions of the awards ceremony.
