"3D" was in production at the time of Lopes' death, and she had contributed material to the album along with fellow group members Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. It was Lopes who came up with the album's title, according to a statement from Arista.
The first single from the new set will be "Quickie," which is due to hit radio Oct. 21, but will be available more than a month earlier to Internet users. AOL Music First Listen (keyword: First Listen) and Netscape Music will offer a streaming preview of the track beginning Wednesday (Sept. 18).
"3D" was recorded with a slew of producers, including Dallas Austin (on the title track and "Quickie"); Timbaland & Missy Elliott ("Dirty"); Rodney Jerkins ("Turntable); Babyface & Darryl Simmons ("Hands Up"); and Edmund "Eddie Hustle" Clement ("Girl Talk").
Since TLC's 1993 debut, "Oooooh... On the TLC Tip," the group has become one of the biggest-selling R&B acts ever, having been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 21 million albums.
