The Roots Enlist John Legend and Jim James, Sample Joanna Newsom For New Album

The Roots have enlisted John Legend and My Morning Jacket main man Jim James to appear on "How I Got Over," the hip hop band's oft-delayed next album, Billboard sources have confirmed.

In addition, the band is working on a track that samples Joanna Newsom's "Book of Right-On," a track from her 2004 album "The Milk-Eyed Mender." Contrary to reports, Newsom has not recorded with The Roots and appears on the record only in sampled form.

Jim James appears on a re-make of Monsters of Folk's "Dear God," a song he recorded with his side project with Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes and M. Ward.

The Roots have been recording "How I Got Over" in between holding down a day job as the house band for "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and serving as the backing band on new albums for John Legend and, as previously reported,  soul legend Booker T.

No release date is set for "How I Got Over," but the album is expected to come out in 2010.
