The National

The National will play "So Far Around the Bend" with an 8-piece string section when the group performs live on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on May 6.

"So Far Around the Bend" is the National's contribution to the "Dark Was The Night" AIDS charity compilation, a 31-song collection produced by the band's Aaron and Bryce Dessner. Aaron previously told Billboard the band "didn't feel ["So Far Around the Bend"] would make sense" on one of its own albums. "It has this pretty crazy orchestral arrangement; it's a little bit of a throwback song."

Three days before the Fallon appearance, the National will perform at Radio City Music Hall for the "Dark Was The Night- Live" benefit concert.  David Byrne recently joined the the all-star indie bill, which also includes Dave Sitek, Dirty Projectors, Feist, My Brightest Diamond and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings.

As previously reported, The National is "pretty far into the process of writing" its next album, which the band will record starting in April in group member Aaron Dessner's new home studio in Brooklyn's Ditmas Park neighborhood.
