The nominations for the 2nd Annual American Country Awards were announced, and it was a big day for many of the top younger stars in the format. Jason Aldean and the Zac Brown Band led the way with eight nominations each. On their heels were newcomers Thompson Square, who scored seven nominations each. The Band Perry and Taylor Swift also figured prominently in the process, tallying six nods.
Naomi and Wynonna Judd have made their share of history together since releasing their first single, "Had A Dream (For The Heart)," close to three decades ago. They will soon be wrapping up a part of their storied history with the final show of their "The Judds - The Last Encore" tour, set for October 29 in Marksville, LA at the Paragon Casino.
On Tuesday, Oct. 17, the ladies made a stop close to Music City at the Franklin Theatre in downtown Franklin, TN. Newly renovated, the Judds made some more history by becoming one of the first musical acts to play the venue -- just a few miles from their Williamson County home.
Playing a hometown crowd was a little nerve wracking, as Wynonna joked on stage that she felt more at ease at a venue like Carnegie Hall in New York than in front of people they have known for a long period of time. The younger Judd also had plenty of memories about the venue they were playing, stating that she remembered coming to the theatre as a teenager.
Both ladies admitted before the show that the "Last Encore" tour gave them a chance to know and relate to each other better than they did during their 1984-1991 heyday. Wynonna said that becoming a mother and seeing her kids grow into teenagers made her relate to her mother more than she ever had.
Introduced by legendary Nashville radio personality Keith Bilbrey, the two started trading barbs with each other almost immediately. "How many people have been to a Judds concert?" Wynonna asked the crowd. Naomi countered the question by asking "How many here has ever dated one of us?"
The tour has been a successful one for the mother-daughter duo since starting in November 2010 in Green Bay, WI. The shows led to a Curb Records release of some of their greatest hits this past spring titled "I Will Stand By You."
While it would be impossible to perform all their duet hits, as well as Wynonna's solo ones, the ladies did their absolute best to leave the crowd entertained one last time. The duo performed many of their twenty-five Billboard chart hits, including "Love Is Alive," "Rockin With The Rhythm," and the song that Wynonna said "got us out of poverty," their first No. 1 hit -- 1984's "Mama, He's Crazy."
After wrapping up the tour next Saturday, Wynonna will go back on the road for a few dates the remainder of the year, and will begin recording her next album after the beginning of 2012.
