Eight years and a messy breakup after the release of their out-of-nowhere hit single, "I Believe in a Thing Called Love," reunited rockers The Darkness have announced plans to reestablish themselves in the United States with a new album and tour in 2012.

The group will tour North America for the first time since 2004, beginning Feb. 1 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. The Queen-inspired band spent time earlier this year playing shows in its native U.K. and overseas, including stops in Sweden, Spain, Japan, and Italy.

In addition, the band's untitled third studio album will be released in the spring of 2012, following 2005's "One Way Ticket to Hell... and Back." The Darkness had been on hold since 2006, when singer Justin Hawkins left the band following treatment for alcohol and drug issues. In the meantime, Hawkins recorded with the group Hot Leg and British Whale, while other members joined the band Stone Gods.
