U.K. rock outfit the Clientele offers some of the most up-tempo songs of its career on its new album, "God Save the Clientele," due May 8 via Merge. Among them are the disco beat-driven "Bookshop Casanova" (sample lyric: "You've got my name, pick up my number / Come on darling, let's be lovers") and the 104-second rave-up "The Garden at Night."

The piano-dappled, near-instrumental "The Dance of the Hours" is similarly peppy, while "Winter on Victoria Street" swings like a vintage Monkees or Herman's Hermits hit.

Elsewhere, the Clientele returns to the romantic, midtempo indie rock of past albums like "Strange Geometry" on opener "Here Comes the Phantom," the string-tinged "Isn't Life Strange" and the closing lullaby, "Dreams of Leaving."

The group will return the road for a North American tour with indie buzz band Beach House beginning May 6 in Hoboken, N.J. A handful of U.K. shows are on tap this month and in early April.
