The Charlatans U.K. Wrap 'Wonderland'

The Charlatans U.K. will release its seventh album, "Wonderland," through MCA/Universal this September. Marking a shift away from the patented, organ-laced formula last heard on 1999's "Us and Us Only," the set promises a funkier, more electronic sound. "Wonderland" was produced by Danny Saber (Black Grape, David Bowie).

The album takes its title from Saber's home studio on Wonderland Avenue in Los Angeles, where much of the 16-song effort was recorded last fall. In early 2001, the band -- vocalist Tim Burgess, guitarist Mark Collins, bassist Martin Blunt, and drummer Jon Brookes -- added further production and mixed the results at their own Big Mushroom Studio in Manchester, England.

Two singles -- "Love is the Key" and "Judas" -- are slated to precede the album. Additional confirmed titles for "Wonderland" include "If I Fall," "A Man Needs to be Told," "Witchcraft," "Look at Me," "We're So Pretty," and "Wonderland."

Prior to the album's release, the Charlatans U.K. will appear at the V2001 festival Aug. 18-19 in the English towns of Staffordshire and Chelmsford. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Texas, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, David Gray, Doves, Grandaddy, Placebo, Toploader, Starsailor, JJ72, and Muse are also slated to appear.
