Sugar Ray, Natalie Imbruglia, Remy Zero, and Vanessa Carlton have signed on to perform at the sixth annual Green Mountain Energy Earth Day Festival, set for April 6 in Houston's Eleanor Tinsley Park. Sponsored by local radio station KRBE, the day-long festival will feature musical performances, interactive games and family activities, and an area of exhibits meant to raise awareness about conservation and preservation of natural resources.
Forty local environmental groups -- including the Gulf Coast Turtle and Tortoise Society, the Friends of Texas Wildlife, and the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network -- will combine their efforts to create the Earth Zone, featuring exhibits and demonstrations with an environment-friendly focus.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Houston Parks & Recreation Department as well as the participating organizations. One of the biggest annual Earth Day celebrations in the Southwest, the Houston festival has raised $160,000 for local charities over its first five years. Wyclef Jean, Mya, Vertical Horizon, and Collective Soul played at last year's Earth Day celebration.
