"Roxanne" is getting the royal treatment this summer. Sting announced this week that he'll be embarking on a solo tour this summer, bringing the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra along for the ride.

The tour promises to re-imagine Sting's "most celebrated songs" within a symphonic context. Classic Police tracks such as "Roxanne," "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," and "Every Breath You Take" will be coupled with cuts from Sting's prosperous solo career, including songs such as "Fields of Gold" and "Englishman in New York."

The tour kicks off on June 2 at Vancouver's Centre for the Performing Arts. Only four other dates have been confirmed: June 9 at Red Rocks in Morrison, Col.; June 15 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Calif.; and two nights at Ravinia Park in Chicago, Ill., July 17-18. Tickets go on sale for the first three on March 8, and the Chicago shows go on sale April 22.

In the next several weeks, more dates are expected to trickle out, with major markets such as New York, Boston, Houston, Philadelpiha and Washington, D.C.,  expected. Sting will also return to Canada for shows in Toronto and Montreal.

For those who think this might be a bit of a stuffy context for the iconic rocker, he's planning on pairing the Orchestra with a four piece backing band, effectively trying to fuse his rock and roll past with his classical tastes. Sting's latest release was 2009's "If On A Winter's Night," which has sold 537,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. His last proper pop record was 2003's "Sacred Love," which has sold 1.2 million.

The last time North American audiences got a taste of Sting was on the Police's massively successful reunion tour in 2007, which was the top grossing tour that year, grossing over $212 million with more than 1.8 million tickets sold. The Police's last show was on August 7, 2008 at Madison Square Garden -- a benefit for New York City's public television. A subsequent live DVD/CD package entitled "Certifiable: Live in Buenos Aires" was released on November 11, 2008, which culls from the band's December 1-2, 2007 shows.
