Steve Perry Departs From Journey

Lead singer Steve Perry has left Journey, as has drummer Steve Smith. The split came after it was determined that Perry's health issues would prevent him from touring. Billboard Bulletin reports that Perry plans to continue his solo career, while Journey is proceeding with new singer Steve Augeri and drummer Dean Castranova, plus guitarist Neal Schon, bassist Ross Valory, and keyboardist Jonathan Cain.

Perry became the lead singer of Journey in 1979 and, over the past two decades, sang on the group's ten platinum-plus albums. He has recently worked with David Foster and Carole Bayer-Sager in writing and recording "I Stand Alone," the principle track for the soundtrack to the animated feature film "Quest For Camelot.
