Stars, Skaters Salute Burt Bacharach

Aretha Franklin, Michael McDonald and James Ingram are set to perform on the two-hour NBC-TV special "McCormick Presents Burt Bacharach Tribute on Ice," which will air Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. ET/PT. Bacharach will also perform at the event, which will be taped Sept. 20 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

The artists will sing several of Bacharach's songs in accompaniment to performances from ice-skating stars such as Brian Boitano, Rudy Galindo and Nicole Bobek.

Bacharach is scheduled to sing "Alfie," McDonald will perform "On My Own" and "Make It Easy on Yourself," Ingram will do his version of "A House Is Not a Home," while Franklin will tape a new Barcharach-penned song, "Falling Out of Love." As previously reported, the latter song will be included on Franklin's next album, "So Damn Happy," due Sept. 16 via Arista.

Tickets for the event range from $30-$85 and are available through the HP Pavilion box office and Ticketmaster.com.

Bacharach's profile has been revived in recent months. Last year he appeared on "American Idol," which has often featured contestants performing his songs.

"What the World Needs Now Is Love," the 1965 Jackie DeShannon hit written by Bacharach and songwriting partner Hal David, was released this year as a hit cover version by the "American Idol" second-season finalists. In addition, "The Look of Love," a Broadway revue of Bacharach/David songs, launched in April for a limited two-month run.
