Stars Flock To Nashville For Opry's 80th

A host of talent that includes Garth Brooks, Trace Adkins, Ralph Stanley, Terri Clark, Diamond Rio and Travis Tritt will descend upon Nashville next month to celebrate the Grand Ole Opry's 80th anniversary. Six special shows will be staged over three days, with country and bluegrass music at the Grand Ole Opry House and other activities planned.

A special Tuesday Opry show on Oct. 11 will include performances by Adkins, Clark, Del McCoury and others. Friday and Saturday will see two shows each night, the first at 6:30 p.m. and the second at 9:30 p.m. Bill Anderson, Joe Diffie and the Whites are lined up for Oct. 14, while Brooks, Stanley, Tritt, Diamond Rio, Josh Turner and Steve Wariner will perform the following evening, with NBC "Today" personality Willard Scott serving as guest announcer.

Saturday's early show will also see the unveiling of a bronze Opry legend Minnie Pearl statue prior to its permanent installation the late comedian's hometown, Centerville, Tenn.

Additionally, Oct. 15 will feature the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Celebration with Stanley, Osborne Brothers, the Grascals, Shawn Camp, Melanie Cannon, Larry Sparks, Jesse McReynolds and the Virginia Boys performing beginning at 1 p.m.

Throughout that day, Opry Plaza will host a picnic and other family activities, with a portion of proceeds to benefit Opry Trust Fund, which supports the needy within the country music community. The Opry Shop will stage an autograph session with some of the show's stars.

As previously reported, as part of the birthday celebration, the Opry will make a rare move north for a star-studded New York show Nov. 14 at Carnegie Hall.
