Stansfield mixed new material -- including "8-3-1" and the album's lead-off single, "Let's Just Call it Love" -- with such past successes as "Change," "All Woman," and her U.S. No. 1 R&B hit from 1990, "All Around the World." She also offered spirited versions of her very first hit, "People Hold On" (originally recorded with Coldcut), and Barry White's "Never Gonna Give You Up."
The show will be aired Saturday (June 30) by Radio 2. "Face Up" features songs written by Stansfield and Devaney, who also produced. The album was released last Monday (June 25) in the U.K. but will not be coming out via Arista in North America, according to Stansfield's official Web site.
In the meantime, Stansfield has lined up a short U.K. tour, kicking off Sept. 22 in Glasgow and closing Sept. 27-28 at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire.
