Spice Girls Back In Court In Scooter Case

The legal battle between the Spice Girls and Italian scooter manufacturer Aprilia yesterday (Nov. 27) shifted to London's Court of Appeal, Billboard Bulletin reports. The pop group is urging three of the U.K.'s top judges to overturn a High Court verdict last year in favor of Aprilia.

The battle centers on Aprilia's "Sonic Spice" scooter campaign, featuring silhouettes of the five original Spice Girls. The company claimed the campaign had been turned into a "total and very expensive marketing flop" by Geri Halliwell's departure from the group not long after the deal was signed.

At the High Court in February 2000, the judge ordered the group pay Aprilia damages and legal costs. The total pay-out came to about U.S. $565,000. Aprilia is cross-appealing against the judge's later decision to order it to pay 10% of the group's costs. The hearing is set to last three days.

Meanwhile, Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton recently told U.K. tabloid the Sun that the group, which has been largely inactive since the November 2000 album "Forever," has discussed reassembling for a concert tour without Halliwell.
