Sonic Youth Revisits 'Dirty'

Sonic Youth has scoured its archives for a host of previously unreleased material to augment the forthcoming reissue of its 1992 DGC album "Dirty." The new edition, due March 4, sports 20 additional tracks, including B-sides and 11 unissued rehearsal recordings. It will also include a 28-page booklet, with essays from group members Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo as well as journalist Byron Coley.

"It's the full CD, and an extra disc of B-sides, 8-track demo stuff, and some sort of loose tape we had found from the songwriting sessions," Moore told Billboard.com in May. "There are a couple of songs that never got fully realized that were completely amazing to hear."

Among the previously unreleased rehearsal recordings are "Barracuda," "New White Kross," "Lite Damage," and "Guido." B-sides such as "Personality Crisis," Tamra," and "The Destroyed Room" appeared alongside a host of singles and promotional items around the time of the album's original release. "Dirty," Sonic Youth's second major label release, debuted at No. 83 on The Billboard 200 and featured the No. 4 Modern Rock Tracks single "100%."

DGC parent Universal has yet to set a release date for planned expanded reissues of Sonic Youth's 1990 album "Goo" and its revered 1988 predecessor, "Daydream Nation." As for Sonic Youth, the group begins a brief Japanese tour Feb. 17 in Tokyo.
