Slade Guitarist, Jesus Jones Keyboardist Start Fresh

The co-writer of some of the U.K.'s biggest and most fondly-remembered hits of the Glam-rock era is back with a new band. Jim Lea, guitarist and violinist with Slade and co-writer
with Noddy Holder of all their major hits, returns Feb. 14 with the U.K. release of the single "I'll Be John, You Be Yoko," by his new band, Whild. The song, released on the independent Jet label,
has a strong Oasis/Beatles flavor. The CD also features the extra tracks "Megadrive" and
"I Go Wild."

It's Lea's first-ever solo project after a career spanning more than 25 years with Slade, who
amassed 16 U.K. top-10 hits between 1971 and 1984, including six No. 1s. The group never
formally disbanded, but drummer Don Powell has toured with a newer version called Slade II. Holder has developed a broadcasting career on a commercial radio station in Manchester
and is now a successful actor, currently appearing in the hit TV series "The Grimleys."

In other news, former Jesus Jones keyboard player Iain Baker has a new job -- as an afternoon modern rock radio DJ. After a reshuffle that took effect on last week, Baker is the new 1-4 p.m. air talent on London alternative station Xfm, part of the Capital Radio Group.

The South London-born Baker, 34, was with Jesus Jones from its formation in 1988 (when he was known as "Barry D") through its four albums for the Food label. The group notched U.K. top-10 hits with "International Bright Young Thing" (1991) and "The Devil You Know" (1993).

Baker also appeared on the group's 1991 top-5 U.S. hits "Right Here, Right Now" and "Real, Real, Real." Band members went their separate ways after an unsuccessful 1997 album, "Already."
