Skynyrd Scotches Dates With Hagar

The medical condition of founding Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington has once again forced the legendary Southern rock band off the road. The band had returned to touring July 19 following Rossington's recovery from open heart surgery in February.

Last week the band decided to cancel five shows when Rossington was diagnosed with medical fatigue. Upon further testing, doctors determined he had suffered a mild seizure. He was released from an Atlanta hospital Monday and needs at least three weeks of rest before returning to the rigors of road work.

Skynyrd had been out on the Party of a Lifetime co-headlining tour with Sammy Hagar. Hagar will stay on the road and is in the midst of rescheduling dates with his band the Waboritas. Visit his official Web site for updates.

"We're hopeful that Gary will have a speedy recovery and look forward to performing in the near future," Skynyrd lead singer Johnny Van Zant says in a statement. He adds that his band encourages "all of the fans to head out and see Sammy carry the torch. Sammy's an excellent artist! Great music and hot babes. What more could you ask for?"

Barring complications associated with Rossington's recovery, Skynyrd expects to return to the road on its own Vicious Cycle Tour. The dates commence Aug. 23 in Omaha, Neb., and stretch into early November. For details, visit the band's official Web site.
