Shaver Finishes Late Son's Album

Veteran country artist Billy Joe Shaver has finished an album his son Eddy was working on at the time of his 2000 death from a heroin overdose. "Billy and the Kid" will be issued Aug. 24 via Compadre Records. It includes a new song written by the elder Shaver, titled "Fame," which recollects the father-and-son team's long-running musical collaboration.

Shaver claims he and producer Tony Colton received "voices and instructions" from his dead son regarding how to finish work on the tracks. "The album is full of love, talent and dedication with the tracks that Eddy left Tony and me to finish," he says.

Tracks from "Billy and the Kid" were drawn from Eddy Shaver sessions in 1996 in Nashville, plus unfinished recordings taped in the late artist's Waco, Texas, hometown.

Shaver is in the midst of a North American tour that hits New Braunfels, Texas, on Friday (June 18). He will play four European dates beginning July 23 in Mrogowo, Poland, before returning home for an Aug. 7 performance at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry.
