Seattle Stars Gather For Baseball Benefit

Comments

A host of Seattle-based rockers will be on hand at the city's Showbox club tonight (July 9) for the Major League Baseball (MLB) charity concert Show for the Show, which will benefit league charities. The event, which comes in conjunction with tomorrow's MLB all-star game in Seattle, will feature performances by Mudhoney, Wellwater Conspiracy, Marcy Playground, Supersuckers, Pete Droge, and Stick Figure, a band headed by ex-baseball pitcher Jack McDowell.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has also been tipped to appear, but it is not known if he will perform a solo set or simply guest with some of the bands. However, Vedder, who has performed solo a handful of times in the past several years, is confirmed to play at the Los Angeles edition of the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival, set for Oct. 19-21 on the L.A. campus of the University of California. As previously reported, the event is being "curated" by Sonic Youth, who toured North America with Pearl Jam last summer.

In related news, Vedder is also confirmed to perform at an Aug. 4 rally for Ralph Nader's Green Party in Portland, Ore. Ex-Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra and actor Danny Glover will also be on hand, with other guests to be announced in the near future, according to Barbara Payne, the co-chair for the Portland-area Green Party chapter. The event will serve as the kick-off for Nader's People Have the Power tour, which will take the 2000 presidential candidate and assorted guests throughout the country over the next three years.

The day-long Portland event will encompass workshops as well as the rally. The following day, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in "action centers" targeted at political issues specific to the geographical area. Payne says Vedder may also perform at two post-rally fundraisers featuring Nader. For more information on the initiative, visit the Portland-area Green Party chapter's official Web site.
