Saliva Plans Its 'Sickest' Disc Yet

Saliva will release its third major label album, "Survival of the Sickest," Aug. 17 via Island. Produced by Paul Ebersold (Riddlin Kids, 3 Doors Down), the 13-track set marks a different approach to recording for Memphis-based act, switching producers and recording near home.

The group recorded its Island debut, 2001's "Every Six Seconds," and 2002's "Back Into Your System," with producer Bob Marlette. The results had been favorable, with the first reaching No. 56 on The Billboard 200 and the latter bowing at No. 19. The albums have sold 814,000 and 619,000 copies in the United States respectively, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

But this time out, the road-warrior band concentrated on capturing the frenetic energy of its live shows and chose to do that with Memphis-based Ebersold (Riddlin Kids, Sister Hazel). The set even features a member of one of Ebersold's most successful clients: 3 Doors Down vocalist/drummer Brad Arnold, who appears on the cut "Razor's Edge."

The title track serves as the album's first single and is already No. 8 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 25 on the Modern Rock Tracks tally.

The band is shooting a video for the cut tomorrow (July 20) at Los Angeles' Grand Olympic Auditorium, with fans invited to take part. Details can be found on the group's official Web site.

Saliva will kick off a tour Thursday (July 22) in Lincoln, Neb., and has shows scheduled through early October, according to the site. Earshot and Skillet are supporting on most dates.
