S Club 7, Robbie Are U.K.'s Favorites

Pop septet S Club 7's fourth career No. 1 single and Robbie Williams' fourth consecutive No. 1 album were the highlights of the new U.K. sales charts, released yesterday (Nov. 25). The Polydor seven-piece went straight to the top with "Have You Ever," the theme song for this year's BBC Children In Need appeal and the lead song from their new album "Sunshine," due out today.

"Have You Ever" is another success for its co-writer, early 1990s chart star Cathy Dennis, who co-penned Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" (Parlophone), which is No. 1 for a ninth consecutive week on Music & Media's Eurochart Hot 100 Singles chart. Dennis also co-wrote S Club 7's December 2000 U.K. chart-topper "Never Had a Dream Come True."

Williams' success comes with his new Chrysalis album comprised largely of swing and "Rat Pack"-era covers, "Swing When You're Winning," and follows a primetime BBC screening of the accompanying Oct. 10 concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. His duet version of "Somethin' Stupid" with Nicole Kidman is among the favorites for the U.K.'s coveted Christmas No. 1.

While Kylie Minogue continues to rule the Eurochart, her sister Dannii makes a powerful return to the British singles survey at No. 3 as guest vocalist on Riva's dance crossover "Who Do You Love Now" (ffrr). Danni has four previous U.K. top-10 singles to her name, the most recent being "All I Wanna Do" in August 1997.

Also new to the singles top-10 were U2's "Walk On" (Universal/Island) at No. 5 and Austria's DJ Otzi at No. 9 with a cover of Manfred Mann's 1964 U.K. No. 1 "Do Wah Diddy Diddy." The new title, released by EMI, has shed a "Diddy" in its latest version.

Pink Floyd is the new leader of the European Top 100 Albums chart, as the career-spanning "Echoes" (EMI) climbs 3-1, leapfrogging Britney Spears' "Britney" (Jive), which holds at No. 2. Madonna's "GHV2" (Maverick/Warner Bros.) debuts at No. 3.
