Fresh off of an April spoken-word tour of the U.S., Rollins will also add radio host to his list of achievements when he takes over the airwaves of Los Angeles' Indie 103.1 on Monday (May 17) in the 7 to 9 p.m. slot. The iconic punk vocalist will offer opinions and music from his own collection on the program, which is expected to go weekly beginning June 7.
The station, known to mix current songs by college radio favorites like Modest Mouse and Nada Surf with classic punk and alternative tunes by the Buzzcocks and the Pixies, has become something of a phenomenon in Los Angeles. Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones is another of the station's celebrity on-air personalities.
On the music front, the singer has been largely quiet since the Rollins Band's 2001 studio album "Nice." Through his own label, 2.13.61, Rollins recently released "Talk Is Cheap, Vol. 3," the third in a series of spoken-word discs. The company also recently dropped "Weighting," a collection of outtakes and live cuts from the Rollins Band's "Weight" era.
