In August 2000, Haden was hit by a car while crossing a street in Venice, Calif., suffering severe damage to her head, legs, and pelvis. Haden -- now a solo artist who has also worked with Green Day, Spain, the Rentals, and Luscious Jackson -- did not have medical insurance and has been saddled with bills that have reportedly exceeded $100,000. A November 2000 concert featuring a cadre of fellow Los Angeles musicians, including Beck, Tenacious D's Jack Black, Matthew Sweet, and members of the Go-Go's, raised some $12,000 for her care.
Vegas Records chief Jon Halperin says "A Benefit for Petra Haden" will sell for between $7 and $10 and will be in stores by summer. The project's initial pressing will consist of 3,000 copies, although more may be re-pressed, depending on demand.
