Rock Your Socks Off

Peter Frampton gets back to the business of rock on a new, all-instrumental album, "Fingerprints," due this week via New Door. The set features an array of guests, including Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready and drummer Matt Cameron on an original song, "Blowing Smoke," as well as a cover of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun."

Other contributions were turned in by guitarist Warren Haynes and the Shadows' Hank Marvin and Brian Bennett. "If I couldn't have gotten the Shadows, I would have done a Shadows number myself, because they're the reason I'm standing here talking to you," Frampton says of the long-running U.K.-based instrumental rock outfit.

Meanwhile, Akron, Ohio-based rockers the Black Keys crown a new deal with Nonesuch Records this week with their fourth album, "Magic Potion." Says vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach, "I think this album has the best songwriting I've done so far. The last two records, we just were in a total 'studio' state of mind and not thinking about how to play the songs live. This time, we'll be able to play every song live."
