'Rock For Relief' Aims To Aid Disaster Victims

Jack Johnson, Howie Day, Citizen Cope and O.A.R. are among the artists contributing to a new compilation intended to aid victims of natural disaster. "Rock for Relief" is scheduled for a Jan. 31 release and is a cooperative effort between Foundations and Zoe/Rounder Records. Proceeds to be donated to nonprofit aid organization Mercy Corps to benefit victims of the Indian Ocean tsunamis, hurricanes Katrina, Wilma and Rita and the earthquake in Pakistan.

Johnson lends a live version of "Times Like These," a song from his 2003 album "On and On." Day adds an alternative version of "Collide" and Guster gives "Say That to My Face," which were previously available only in limited release. Artists like Dispatch, Marc Broussard and Ari Hest also contributed.

"The idea to put together an album that would benefit victims of the natural disasters from the past year came about shortly after the Indian Ocean Tsunamis," says the album's executive producer, Steve Bursky. "Music is a universal language that can uplift spirits, and with this album, hopefully it can also help alleviate the burdens of those suffering from natural disasters by providing them with food and other necessary resources, through our beneficiary, Mercy Corps."
